Tips for Impact Wrenches
What are you looking for?
Torque. Impact Wrenches and drivers are known mainly for their ability to loosen and tighten bolts/lugs. However what exactly are you looking for when buying one? The thing that gives these machines the ability to do what they do, is the torque. This is measured in Newton Meters (NM). Generally you are going to look for one that will prove at least 200 NM.
What to be careful of?
The most common mistake made whenusing an impact wrench is over-tightening a bolt or lug. This could also lead to cross threading and we definitely do not want that! The only simple way to avoid this is by only loosening things with it. However, if you are careful enough you can go either way!
Impact Wrench VS Torque Wrench
There is often confusion between these 2 products. They both focus heavily on torque, they are both used to tighten bolts and they both have wrench in their name. So what is the real difference? An Impact wrench is great and tightening and loosening due to their high torque range and they are also very fast at doing what they were built to do. A Torque wrench focuses more on accuracy. They are very precise in giving you the exact amount of torque you are looking for, meaning they are usually somewhat case specific vs the more general application of an impact wrench. |
