Meaning 'the original' in Gaelic, Aberlour A'bunadh is made in homage to Aberlour's founder, James Fleming. A'bunadh is a whisky hand-made from start to finish, with each batch being created to ensure a rich and complex flavour of moist raisins, and homemade fruit cake. It is bottled at cask strength resulting in a robust and deeply intense, sherried whisky.
Built by James Fleming, the Aberlour Distillery is one of the younger distilleries in Scotland, with many others dating back to the 18th century. Aberlour was the fruit of James Fleming's labour, and his ambition to build a distillery that was perfect in every manner and just the way he had desired to construct it. James had previously worked at the Dailuaine Distillery for 10 years, bringing a wealth of his knowledge to Aberlour.
Flavour notes of Aberlour A'bunadh reveal orange, black cherries, dried fruit, and ginger spiked with dark bitter chocolate and enriched with Sherry and Oak. Full-bodied and creamy. On the nose, Aberlour A'bunadh aroma gives way to mixed spices, praline, and spiced orange harmonising with rich, deep notes of Oloroso Sherry. The Scotch whisky is presented in an auburn gold colour with robust and intense bitter-sweet notes of exotic spices, dark chocolate, and oak finish.
Aberlour A'bunadh is best consumed and savoured neat or on the rocks. It can also be paired with a decadent dessert. A rich chocolate torte or a creamy chocolate ganache cake both come to mind.
