When the backlight is on, any operation will activate the backlight. It has an automatic shutdown function to extend battery life and a low battery indicator so you don't accidentally run out of battery life.
The 12:1D temperature gun can accurately measure targets at a distance, making it safer to measure dangerous objects; for optimal accuracy, the thermometer should be about 14.17 inches away from the measured object.
The emissivity of most organic materials and painted or oxidized surfaces is 0.95 (preset in the device). Measuring shiny or polished metal surfaces will result in inaccurate readings. To compensate, cover the target surface with masking tape or flat black paint. When the tape or paint reaches the same temperature as the material underneath, measure the tape or painted surface.
