How It Works
Choline is an essential nutrient involved in several normal physiological processes. It is required for the production of acetylcholine, an important neurotransmitter, and for phosphatidylcholine and sphingomyelin, phospholipids that form important structural components of cell membranes. Choline also participates in lipid transport and metabolism and helps support normal liver function.
Choline requirements change across different life stages. For women aged 19 years and older, the established adequate intake is 425 mg per day, increasing to 450 mg during pregnancy and 550 mg during breastfeeding.
