A tallit (or tallis in Yiddish) is a Jewish prayer shawl, traditionally worn during morning prayers, as well as on certain holidays and special occasions. It features four cornered fringes, called tzitzit, as commanded in the Torah (Numbers 15:37-41), symbolizing the wearer's connection to God and the commandments. Spiritually, the tallit serves as a physical reminder of one's commitment to live a life of holiness and mindfulness of divine laws. The act of wrapping oneself in the tallit is often seen as an intimate moment of seeking closeness with God, enveloping oneself in prayer and spiritual protection.
The wording on the Tallit (prayer shawl) are:
Baruch attah Ado-noy Elo-hay-nu Melech ha'olam asher kid-sha-nu b'mitz-vo-sav v'tzi-vanu l'his-atef b'tzitzis. (Trans: Blessed are you, Lord our G-d, King of the universe, Who has sanctified us with His commandments, and commanded us to enwrap ourselves with tzitzis.)
