Nigiro Osmanthus Oolong Tea is a delicate marriage of tradition, craftsmanship, and nature's floral elegance. With oolong teas occupying a broad spectrum of oxidation levels, this Taiwanese oolong reflects a careful fermentation of around 40 percent, offering both the brightness of green tea and the smooth depth of black tea, all layered beneath the gentle bloom of osmanthus.
Osmanthus blossoms, prized across Asia alongside jasmine and chrysanthemum, are celebrated for their graceful aroma and symbolic association with good fortune and refinement. The osmanthus flowers for this tea are harvested in Northern Taiwan, where the cooler mountain climate produces blossoms rich in essential oils and fragrance. To capture their peak aroma, the blossoms are picked in the early morning hours between 4 and 7am, when the flowers naturally exude their highest concentration of scent.
Following the ancient traditions from Guangxi Province in Southern China, these handpicked blossoms are layered with small leaf Taiwanese oolong leaves during processing. The scenting process allows the tea to naturally absorb the sweet, fruity fragrance of osmanthus before both the leaves and flowers are gently dried together, ensuring no artificial flavours are needed. The result is a graceful yellow infusion with a mild, fruity flavour reminiscent of caramel, balanced by soft floral sweetness and the evolving complexity of oolong.
This tea offers a dynamic tasting experience that reveals different characteristics over multiple infusions. The first brews highlight green, grassy freshness, while the later steepings transition toward the soft woody qualities of black tea, all the while carrying the elegant floral embrace of blooming osmanthus.
Nigiro Osmanthus Oolong is not only enjoyed for its aroma and taste but is also known in tea culture for its relaxing qualities and support for digestion, making it an ideal tea for thoughtful moments or after a satisfying meal.
Serving suggestion:
We recommend brewing oolong tea with water at around 85 degrees Celsius. Steep the tea for approximately 3 minutes, then taste to see if the strength suits your preference. If you desire a stronger brew, you may steep it for another minute or two. Use a teapot with an infuser for best results. If a teapot is not available, an infuser ball, infuser cup, or a fine mesh strainer will also work well. For each serving, use about 3 to 4 grams of loose leaf tea, or roughly one teaspoon. This tea may be steeped a second time; simply extend the brewing time to draw out the remaining flavour.
