The PCV (Positive Crankcase Ventilation) valve on the Ford Focus 1.6 TDCI (DV6 engine) is integrated into the rocker cover, often failing when the internal rubber diaphragm ruptures, causing excessive oil consumption, rough idling, and white/blue exhaust smoke. Symptoms of Failure:
- High oil consumption, oily residue around the engine intake, blue smoke at startup, rough running, and excessive pressure within the crankcase.
- Location: The valve is located on top of the engine, incorporated into the black plastic rocker cover.
- Replacement Method: While some replace the entire rocker cover, the diaphragm/valve component can be replaced by carefully removing the plastic cover cap.
- Replacement Tip: The plastic cover cap is held by several small pins. These are fragile and often break during removal; using a new repair kit that includes a replacement cap is recommended.
- Alternatives: If the diaphragm is torn, it allows oil vapor to enter the intake system directly, which is a common cause of high oil usage.
- It is highly recommended to use a repair kit specifically for the 1.6 TDCI/HDi engine, which often includes a new diaphragm, spring, and cap.
