This erect woody shrub, bears small yellowish-white flowers clustered into dense heads. Its hairy leaves have pronounced veins and a strong, aromatic lemon scent, giving the plant its common name. It grows widely across South Africa, particularly along the East Coast. Known as Lemon Bush or Cape Verbena, Fever Tea has traditionally been used for a wide range of ailments.

Its strong fragrance also makes it an effective natural insect repellent, particularly against moths and mosquitoes.
