The BV222 was the largest flying boat built during the Second World War, it had a wingspan of 46 meters (150 ft 9 inches) and a range of 7000 km (4350 miles). Originally developed for Luft Hansa, the aircraft were impressed into military service at the start of the war. The BV222 was used for long-distance transfer of goods and troops, 13 were built with no examples surviving today. In June 1944, all BV222's were moved to Norway where they were captured after the war by British troops.
