The Punisher, also known as Frank Castle, is a Marvel Comics character created by writer Gerry Conway and artists John Romita Sr. and Ross Andru. First appearing in 1974, the character was inspired by pulp vigilante Mack Bolan. A former military operative turned vigilante after the murder of his family, Castle operates outside the law in the Earth-616 universe. The character has been portrayed on screen by Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane, Ray Stevenson, and Jon Bernthal. Published by Marvel Comics, the Punisher has appeared across comics, films, and television, with an upcoming Marvel Studios production directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green set for 2026 as part of Marvel Cinematic Universe Phase Six.

The white skull emblem serves as Frank Castle's personal insignia, designed to intimidate criminals and draw fire toward his armoured chest plate.
