While scientist Alec Holland was developing a formula to grow plant life in barren areas, a rival organization attempting to steal the formula set off a bomb that doused Alec in his bio-restorative serum. To escape the explosion's flames, he stumbled into a nearby swamp, where he mutated into the peculiar hero known as Swamp Thing. Swamp Thing possesses superhuman strength and the ability to regenerate any part of his body. He can also command plants to obey his will and teleport by inhabiting vegetation anywhere in the world.
