Function:
The thermostat's primary role is to control the engine's temperature. It does this by regulating the flow of coolant, which is a mixture of antifreeze and water, between the engine and the radiator.
How it works:
Cold Engine: When the engine is cold, the thermostat is closed, preventing coolant from flowing to the radiator. This allows the engine to warm up quickly and efficiently.
Warm Engine: As the engine warms up, the thermostat opens, allowing coolant to flow to the radiator where it is cooled and then recirculated back to the engine.
Optimal Temperature: The thermostat opens and closes at specific temperature thresholds, ensuring the engine operates within its optimal temperature range.
