What It Is
Tongkat Ali is a flowering plant native to the tropical rainforests of Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. Its root, often powdered, has traditionally been used as a tonic for vitality and resilience - and we now use it for the same purpose in the West.
How It Works
Like any adaptogens, Tongkat Ali broadly affects many biological systems. These include hormone-regulation pathways, the HPA-axis, mitochondrial pathways and the dopaminergic system within the brain.
Tongkat Ali supports healthy testosterone function and reduces cortisol levels, resulting in improved energy levels and resilience. It indirectly acts to boost dopamine levels by lowering stress-related suppression, and possibly also via a direct mechanism that is not yet fully understood. This, along with its effect on testosterone, results in its aphrodisiac properties.
Tongkat can help to normalise dysregulated hormonal pathways (often a result of chronic stress) in both men and women. This can help with the associated symptoms such as fatigue, brain fog, weakness and low libido.
Usage Instructions
Start with 1/4 to 1/2 of a level teaspoon daily. Once experienced, take up to 1 level teaspoon daily in single or divided doses.
Please note, Tongkat may not work immediately and requires a week of consistent dosing to achieve its effects. Enjoy!
