- Berberine stimulates liver cells, muscle cells and fat cells to take up glucose through a process that does not depend upon insulin. Berberine also increases insulin sensitivity and regulates the function of mitochondria, the "powerhouses" of cells (where energy metabolism occurs) thus preventing fatty liver, reducing blood glucose and decreasing blood lipids. Berberine also acts on aglucosidase, an intestinal enzyme that breaks down carbohydrates into simple sugars. This leads to the intestines absorbing lesser amounts of carbohydrates from the diet, and leads to low blood sugar levels after meals.
- Graviola boosts the immune system and has antitumourous, anti-cancerous and selective toxicity against various types of cancer cells. It also has many antimicrobial properties that help prevent infection and disease. It is an antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal and anti-parasitic agent, stopping many of these potentially harmful microbes from wreaking havoc in the body.
- Magnolia Bark is a strong anti-oxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Research at Jeonju University, Korea, tested magnolol extracts on prostate cancer cells. It was observed that the extract stopped the cancer from advancing in any way.
