Stearic Acid is a fatty acid used in DIY and commercial cosmetics, soaps and candles. In creams and lotions, it is used as an emollient and surfactant in combination with emulsifiers like Annese Emulsifying wax to stabilise, improve texture and consistency of product. It also helps protect skin’s surface against water loss.
In soap making, Stearic acid is used to thicken and retain the shape of soaps.
This product is white to off-white in colour; the form is waxy pastilles or dry flakes (form does not affect product performance and composition) and it is low in odour.
For best results, use levels of Stearic Acid between 1.5 – 5% of the total weight of your recipe, the more Stearic Acid you add the thicker the product you get. It should be melted together with the oil phase of your recipe.
It is not an effective emulsifier when used on its own. It is recommended to use the Stearic Acid in combination with other emulsifiers and co-emulsifiers like Emulsifying Wax, Cetyl Alcohol and Cetearyl Alcohol.
