Some test-tube studies have found, in addition to fighting off bacteria that oregano and its components can also protect against certain viruses.

Carvacrol and thymol in particular, are two compounds associated with antiviral properties in oregano.

In one test-tube analysis, within one hour of treatment, carvacrol inactivated norovirus, a viral infection that triggers diarrhoea, nausea, and stomach pain.

Another test-tube analysis showed that 90 percent of the herpes simplex virus inactivated thymol and carvacrol within only one hour.

Oregano may benefit gut health in a number of ways. Gut symptoms such as diarrhea, pain and bloating are common and can be caused by gut parasites. One study gave 600 mg of oregano oil to 14 people who had gut symptoms as a result of a parasite. After daily treatment for six weeks, all participants experienced a reduction in parasites, and 77% were completely cured.

Recommended dose is 3-4 drops in 1 tsp (5ml) Black seed oil/ extra virgin olive oil/ other oils/sugar/milk taken once or twice a day followed by a 200ml glass of water. (Heat sensation is normal, but if this dose is too strong for you start with 1 drop & build up over time.)
