Secrets to a Successful Lawn:
– Ensure the lawn has adequate nutrition
– Too much nutrition creates excessive growth, promotes disease and can be a waste
– Too little results in poor colour, weaker plants and weeds may start to appear
Mowing
– Mow at regular intervals and in alternate directions
– Never remove more than 1/3rd of the leaf off with each mow
– Rather mow at longer leaf lengths
This helps improve the lawn by:
– Producing deeper roots
– Shading out unwanted weeds
– Maximising photosynthesis especially in shaded areas
Smarter irrigation:
– Irrigate less frequently but with greater duration this enables water to penetrate deeper into the soil
– This encourages the lawn to produce a deep, healthy root system
– Deep soil moisture acts as a reservoir for potentially hot and dry conditions this protects the lawn from drying out
Grass roots:
– Grass roots require oxygen
– Spiking regularly helps the roots access oxygen in the atmosphere
– It also assists with drainage and prevents the roots from becoming water logged
– The end result is a healthier root system
