Technical information
Thermal insulation
This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been validated for a comfort temperature in activity of 0 C during a protocolled test in a thermal chamber. The model is wearing a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a light fleece. He is walking with a simulated wind at 5 km/h. This corresponds in our heat comparator to a level of 1 star.
We have also tested this model in static mode. Its comfort temperature is then +10 C.
Technical information on wadding
We use 100% polyester wadding of 100 g/m2 on the body and 60 g/m2 on the sleeves.
Our advice in case of rain
The material of this down jacket is water-repellent. It allows water droplets to roll off the fabric, which delays the penetration of water into the down jacket, giving you time to take shelter. However, the down jacket is not waterproof. We therefore advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over the down jacket in case of prolonged exposure to rain.
Water repellency of the component (not to be confused with impermeability)
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide on its surface without absorbing it. Thus, the textile does not become waterlogged and remains light and warm. The material of this down jacket is water repellent, however we advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over it in case of exposure to rain. The water repellency is obtained by a PFC-free treatment applied to the external face of the fabric, but with use it can be altered. We advise you to reactivate it with each wash.
How to reactivate water repellency?
After cleaning your down jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator liquid to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. It helps regenerate the water-repellent properties of the fabric and optimize the performance of your garment throughout its lifespan.
The advantages of synthetic wadding filling
Synthetic filling offers an interesting alternative to feathers:
- It has good thermal insulation capacity, even when wet
- It offers more breathability and can be recommended for dynamic activities (feathers are recommended for static activities)
- It is easy to maintain: it can be machine washed at 30 C and tumble dried
A snag? Here's how to repair your down jacket
When trekking, a tear on a down jacket can happen! The good news is that you can repair it with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or synthetic fibers from escaping.
You don't feel comfortable doing this repair yourself? Don't panic! Some Decathlon workshops offer a repair service in store to mend your down jacket using an iron-on patch.
