Sun Moon Lake, nestled in the heart of Taiwan's Nantou County, is one of Asia's most breathtaking natural treasures. Framed by misty mountains, tranquil waters, and lush forests, the lake's name reflects its shape - one side like the sun, the other like the moon. This pristine, elevated environment is not only a destination of poetic beauty but also home to some of Taiwan's most exquisite tea gardens.

Unlike typical black teas that are brisk, bold or broken for convenience, Sun Moon Lake Black Tea is made from large, unbroken leaves. These thick, whole leaves are fully fermented, yet the result is astonishingly smooth and rounded. It carries notes more commonly associated with oolong such as soft florals, gentle spice, and a lingering sweetness that envelopes the palate rather than striking it. This tea embodies the calm and depth of the lake it is named after.

Cultivated with great patience and minimal interference, the tea benefits from the unique microclimate of Sun Moon Lake: mild misty mornings, balanced rainfall, and rich red soil. It is hand plucked, slowly oxidised, and rolled with precision to retain its structure and depth. The integrity of the whole leaf means that each infusion releases flavour gradually, delivering layers of warmth and emotion much like watching the lake itself shift through light and reflection.

Serving suggestion:

We recommend brewing black tea with water at around 95 degrees Celsius. Steep the tea for approximately 3 minutes, then taste to see if the strength suits your preference. If you desire a stronger brew, you may steep it for another minute or two. Use a teapot with an infuser for best results. If a teapot is not available, an infuser ball, infuser cup, or a fine mesh strainer will also work well. For each serving, use about 3 to 4 grams of loose leaf tea, or roughly one teaspoon. This tea may be steeped a second time; simply extend the brewing time to draw out the remaining flavour.
