Nikka Pure Malt Black

A superb example of what Japanese whisky is truly capable of. Nikka Pure Malt Black is a blended malt, a vatting of single malt whisky from Nikka’s Miyagikyo and Yoichi distilleries, located on the Japanese islands of Honshu and Hokkaido respectively. The fruity elegance of the Miyagikyo along with the spicy, smokier notes of the Yoichi single malts integrate wonderfully. Highly rated by Jim Murray in his whisky bible, scoring 95 points.

Sadly, Nikka’s Pure Malt series was discontinued several years ago but we are fortunate to get the last batch of this Japanese liquid gold history.

Tasting Notes
- Colour: deep gold.
- Nose: honeyed malt with cracked black pepper, ripe cherries, plums and orange zest. Smoke and dark chocolate emerge with time in the glass.
- Palate: a winning combination of dark chocolate and dark berry fruit, spicy, along with toffee and vanilla notes, followed by peat smoke.
- Finish: long, silky, warming spice, heather honey sweetness beautifully balanced with lingering peat smoke.
