What is a garden hedge shear?
A hedge shear features long, sharply ground blades. They are used on most types of hedges, especially tightly packed hedges as used for topiary and in typical English gardens. The professional models have serrations near the bottom of the blade for gripping larger twigs and hard wood during cutting.

A hedge trimmer, shrub trimmer, or bush trimmer is a gardening tool or machine used for trimming (cutting, pruning) hedges or solitary shrubs (bushes). Different designs as well as manual and powered versions of hedge trimmers exist.
