Beekeeping – Queen Excluder- Metal

The intent of the queen excluder is to limit the queen’s access to the honey supers. Queen excluders will confine the bee queen to the brood box as she will be prevented from laying the brood in honey supers. When a queen excluder is used the queen bee will only be able to lay eggs in the brood chamber and she cannot access the super chamber above. Worker bees can easily pass through the wire mesh, and the queens cannot.
When it comes to harvesting honey, only ripe clean honey is ready for harvesting and filtering from the super chamber and will be no eggs or larvae in the honeycomb. Confining the queen to the brood box also makes it easier to find the queen.
