In previous generations longer (1-2M) Thunderbolt cables lacked compatibility with USB-C (3.0) devices, meaning that if you wanted to use longer Thunderbolt 3 cables with USB-C devices you would have seen reduced speeds.

8K DISPLAY WITH 2M CABLE
Previous generations of 2M Thunderbolt 3 Active cables restricted compatibility to Thunderbolt monitors only. This meant that 2M cables could not be used with USB-C monitors.
CalDigitâs 2M Thunderbolt 4 cables on the other hand have expanded that compatibility, and can be used with USB-C monitors in addition to Thunderbolt monitors, for up to 8K resolution.
