Introduction to England Rugby T-Shirt Prince
England Rugby T-Shirt Prince Obolensky is a classic Ellis Rugby T-Shirt of exceptional quality.
Inspired by the legend of Alexander Obolensky The Flying Prince. The design of the Flying Prince T-shirt comprises of the vintage Oxford crown along with English Rose appliqu. Prince A. S. Obolensky was a Rurikid prince whose family fled Russia after the Russian Revolution of 1917, settling in London.
Furthermore, he was known as The Flying Prince and excelled in rugby. And he gained two rugby blues representing Oxford University. In 1936 he scored 2 tries on his England debut in a 13-0 victory over the NZ. The game was the first time that England had beaten New Zealand in a rugby match. England would then be unable to defeat New Zealand again until 1973. During 1936 Obolensky would gain 3 more caps playing for England.
He was selected for the 1936 British Isles tour of Argentina. The team played ten matches. Including, one match against a full Argentina International team and the other nine against club and combined teams. The tourists scored 461 points and conceding only 12 points. They won every game.
On the outbreak of war, Obolensky joined the RAF. Tragically, on 29 March 1940, a day after being recalled to the England squad he lost his life during training when his Plane overshot the runway on Martlesham Heath, Suffolk. He was only 24 years old.
