An Introduction to Heritage England Rugby T-Shirt
The Heritage England Rugby T-Shirt Prince Obolensky Grey is a classic Ellis Rugby T-Shirt of exceptional quality.
The design is inspired by the legend of Alexander Obolensky The Flying Prince. The graphics of the Flying Prince T-shirt comprises of the vintage Oxford crown. Also, it has an English Rose applique. Prince A. S. Obolensky was a Rurikid prince. His family fled Russia after the Russian Revolution of 1917. And the family settled in London.
Obolensky earned two rugby blues. He represented Oxford University RFC as a wing three-quarter. His first cap was at the age of 18, in the 1935 varsity match. And he made an outstanding try-saving tackle in an otherwise dull game. That brought him to the attention of the English selectors. And in 1936, he was picked to play wing for England. He played against the celebrated All Blacks touring team.
Not surprisingly, it made Obolensky the only Russian ever to play for England. His selection caused considerable controversy in the run up to the game. He gained British Citizenship in 1936.
After studying from Oxford in 1937 Obolensky joined Rosslyn Park, based in Richmond, Surrey. He also played for Leicester between 1934 and 1939.
On 31st August 1936, while playing for the British Forces representative side. In an 82-0 rout of a Brazilian XV in a warm-up game in Niteroi, he created a record by scoring an amazing 17 tries.
