An Introduction to Heritage Northampton Saints T-Shirt

Heritage Northampton Saints T-Shirt. The Vintage design T-Shirt is inspired by the great Northampton Saints Rugby Football Club. And Harry Weston who became the Saints first-ever England Rugby international. The design includes the traditional Saints crest alongside the classic English Rose on the front.

Harry Weston was a local farmer from Yardley Gobion. He made his full England Rugby debut against Scotland in 1901. The game was staged at Blackheaths ground. The score finished England three and Scotland eighteen points. In addition, he played one match for a Great Britain XV against New Zealand.

The Weston family Northampton Saints Rugby Heritage

Weston married Edith Downing. And, they farmed at The Elms, Yardley Gobion. They brought up a family of two sons and three daughters. Harrys son, Bill Weston was the eldest of both boys. Under his fathers tuition, Bill became an accomplished rugby player. He was selected to play rugby for England in the nineteen-thirties. Also, he continued the family business farming at The Elms until his death in 1987.

Playing against New Zealand was perhaps Westons finest hour in an England shirt. No one was better than Bill Weston, said the teams captain, Bernard Gadney at a reunion in 1983. No one ever got past him on the blindside.

This defensive determination helped underpin a famous 13-0 win for England in January 1936, but such was Westons continually high standards that this game came adozen years after he first played against the All Blacks, for the East Midlands at the County Ground in 1924.

1936 also saw Weston be selected for a British team that toured Argentina. He played in 11 out of the 12 games. And in between times there had been four seasons as Saints captain, with a fifth to come in his final season, 1937-38.

Saints players dominate England Rugby pack

Westons international career began relatively late. His first cap came against Ireland in February 1933. At the age of 27. Then, over the subsequent five years, he would be part of a trio of the Northampton Saints team and the England pack. Alongside prop Ray Longland and Lock forward John Dicks.

His final appearance for England came in 1938. He retired with 16 caps.Weston played in the 1924 game for the East Midlands against New Zealand. This was one of the tourists toughest on their 38 match tour.

Seven years later Weston represented East Midlands combined with Leicestershire against South Africa. It was played at Welford Road.Weston landed four conversions and a crucial penalty that stopped a South African comeback. The hosts went on to win 30-21.

Once again Weston was a major influence on the East Midlands team. Weston was one of 10 Saints that helped beat Gloucester 10-0. This game was played at Franklins Gardens in March 1934. It secured the County Championship for the first time. It was the crowning glory of that particular vintage of players.
