An Introduction to Rugby League Lions T-Shirt Great Britain 1958
The Rugby League Lions T-Shirt Great Britain 1958 design is inspired by the great Ashes Winning Tourists of Australia. Here is the story of the Third Test decider.

Great Britain were based in Cronulla in the lead-up to the deciding third test. The players enjoyed the early morning surfs. Also, they enjoyed thehospitality in what was the end of the Australian leg of a tough tour itinerary.

Captain Alan Prescott had continued to lead the players off the field despite his arm injury. Prescott believed the Great Britain team were much stronger than the Kangaroos. And if the pack of Forwards worked hard and did their job, then the superior pace of the backs out wide would be too much for Australia.

The experienced St Helens Prop Abe Terry was drafted in to the front row to replace the injured Prescott. Barrows Canadian born three-quarter Phil Jackson moved in to the Stand Off position. He moved in the place of the injured Dave Bolton. Jackson also took over the Captaincy inthis vital game.

The only other change from the2nd Test team was the inclusion of Oldhams Alan Davies in the Centre in place of Warringtons Jim Challinor. The Forward pack was intact with the exception of Prescott. Johnny Whiteley, Dick Huddart and Vince Karaliusmade an outstanding back three. Brian McTigue, Tommy Harris along with Abe Terry were a pretty formidable Front row.

The Ashes Series Decider
Australia were boosted by the return of Centre Harry Wells and Stand Off Greg Hawick. Their team was equally talented with some legendary Rugby League players, such as Keith Holman, Rex Mossop and Norm Provan.

When the teams arrived at the Sydney Cricket Ground, the atmosphere was electric. And a crowd of 68,720 mainly Aussie fans there to see a famous win for the home team. But they left disappointed. Great Britain were truly sensational. Wingers, Mick Sullivan and Ike Southward had a field day, with Sullivan scoring three times and Southward once.

The total of 40 points was a record for an Ashes Test match. And was a tribute to the magnificent teamwork under the captaincy on the day of Stand-Off Phil Jackson.

There was also some wonderful individual efforts. None better than a 30 yard try to 19-year-old halfback, Alex Murphy, who twice wriggled out of attempted tackles by Wells. And then left fullback, Gordon Clifford standing in his wake.

As expected it was a tough Test with plenty of fire and heavy tackling. But the players from both sides swapped jerseys on full time and enjoyed a beer afterwards.Great Britain had reclaimed the Asheswith a 40-17 victory, prompting a jubilant lap of honour with Prescott, his broken arm in a sling, carried high by the tourists.
