The1998 Womens Rugby World Cup was the first world cup fully sanctioned by the International Rugby Board IRB. The other two in 1991 and 1994 were not organise by the IRB. Later, the 1991 and 1994 competitions received recognition as genuine Womens Rugby World Cup. The tournament took place in Amsterdam, in the Netherlands.
