Technical information
What level of warmth does this down jacket offer?
This down jacket, worn as a 3rd layer, has been validated for a comfort temperature in activity of -5 C, during a protocolized test in a thermal chamber. The model wears a long-sleeved synthetic t-shirt and a light fleece. He walks with a simulated wind at 5 km/h. We have also tested this model statically. Its comfort temperature is then +5 C.
The advantages of duck down and feather filling
The swelling capacity of the down gives it 3 qualities for practicing mountain sports:
– Thermal insulation thanks to the air trapped in the down and feathers.
– Ultra lightness: for equal heat, the feather is lighter than synthetic wadding. This allows you to save even more weight in your backpack.
– Ultra compressibility.
How to measure the fill power of down and feather filling?
The fill power represents the thermal insulation capacity of the down by “trapping” a certain volume of air. It is expressed in cuin. Thus, the more the down is puffy (+ the number of cuin is high), the more space it occupies, the more air it traps and therefore the more it insulates. For this down jacket filled with 90% down and 10% feathers, the fill power is guaranteed to be greater than or equal to 800 cuin (international standard).
How to care for a down jacket?
The down jacket will be worn all winter and will certainly need to be washed. But the less you wash it, the more it retains its thermal insulation and water repellency.
In summary:
1/ Machine wash with a detergent for down or technical sportswear, at 30 , with 2 or 3 tennis balls. Gentle spin.
2/ Tumble dry on cotton mode, with 2 or 3 tennis balls, repeat 2 or 3 times until completely dry.
Water repellency of the component (not to be confused with waterproofness)
The water repellency of a fabric is its ability to let water slide on its surface without absorbing it. Thus, the textile does not become waterlogged and remains light and warm. The material of this down jacket is water repellent, however we advise you to wear a waterproof jacket over it in case of exposure to rain. The water repellency is obtained by a PFC-free treatment applied to the outer side of the fabric, but it can be altered with use. We advise you to reactivate it with each wash.
How to reactivate water repellency?
After cleaning your down jacket, we recommend using a water-repellent reactivator liquid to preserve the hydrophobic properties of the outer fabric. It helps regenerate the water repellency of the fabric and optimize the performance of your garment throughout its lifespan.
A snag? Here’s how to repair your down jacket
When trekking, a tear on a down jacket can happen! The good news is that you can repair it with a repair patch to prevent the tear from getting bigger or feathers from escaping. You don’t feel comfortable doing this repair yourself? Don’t panic! Some Decathlon workshops offer a repair service in store to mend your down jacket using an iron-on patch.
