Hydroponic Growing Medium for Seed Germination, Rock Wool Seed starting cubes for clones/cuttings/seeds
Worldwide, stone wool / Rockwool is acknowledged as the best hydroponics growing medium. The quality, consistency, and performance of Rockwool in comparison to alternative substrates are well known.
Basaltic rock is melted and spun into fibres, which are then air-cooled and crushed into the blocks we use today to make Rockwool. The density of the medium can be changed by changing the amount of pressure. The huge slabs can be easily handled in the hydroponic and horticultural industries by being cut into smaller slabs and propagation blocks.
Lightweight.
A growing media that is naturally very aerated.
Handle, cut, and transplant with ease.
You will need these materials/steps to prepare the Rockwool growing medium for first use:
The Rockwool plugs
To soak plugs in pH-balancing water, use a bowl or container (pH Down, pH Up).
Cuttings or seeds.
The pH of Rockwool Cubes is about 7.8. Despite the fact that this is largely alkaline, our plants prefer a little more acidic environment (between 5.5 and 6.5). We must first prepare our Rockwell cubes for the seeds by soaking them in pH-adjusted water. In this way, the seeds will have access to both water and a slightly acidic environment, which are both necessary for germination and sprouting.
Stabilize and hydrate the Rockwool cubes.
Get a bowl or other container that is large enough to hold your Rockwool cubes and yet has enough for water.
Use your faucet to fill the container or bowl with water.
Determine the pH of the water using a pH test kit or a pH meter. Since water typically has a pH of 7.4, you will need to slightly acidify it to lower the pH to the appropriate amount. Aim for a pH that is as near to 5.5â6 as you can manage.
In order to do this, utilize pH down. Add a drop at a time, testing the water to determine the pH level as you go. This should be done until your pH is between 5.5 and 6.0.
Important: Avoid allowing the water’s pH to go below 5. This low pH will harm the Rockwool Cube’s fibres.
It is now time to stabilize and hydrate the Rockwool cubes in the pH-adjusted water. Place the Rockwool Cubes inside your container, then soak them for about an hour. The cubes will be large and fatty with water once the hour is up.
THEY SHOULD NOT BE SQUEEZED TO DRAIN ANY WATER
Squeezing Rockwool Cubes could harm their structure because they are made to maintain the right water-to-air ratio.
Each sheet contains 49 piloted rock wool cubes.
