A peripheral vane pump also known as a regenerative turbine pump operates with a peripheral impeller that rotates in a largely concentric casing channel with an inlet and an outlet opening. Energy is added to the liquid as it travels from the center of the impeller to the rim. In a regenerative turbine, pump liquid recirculates between the impellers vane.

The pump input power of peripheral pumps decreases with increasing flow rate.
