Irvingia Gabonensis is derived from the African Mango commonly grown in Africa and Southeast Asia. Fruits from these trees are often called dika nuts which contain high amounts of mucilage and are traditionally used as a thickening agent. These aromatic nuts are typically dried in the sun for preservation and are sold whole or in powder form. Ground into a paste they are used as a thickening agent in traditional dishes.
Studies have shown that Irvingia Gabonensis significantly reduces body fat in obese subjects versus placebo by activating leptin, a natural hormone in weight control. When the body is in a state of resisting leptin, it becomes more difficult to know when you are full and have had enough to eat and so will overeat. Apart from regulating the activation of leptin, the soluble fibre found in the seed is bulk-forming and assists in suppressing the appetite. Elevation of blood sugar levels, often typical after a meal, are stabilized by delaying the emptying of the stomach and causing a more gradual breakdown of foods. Due to it delaying the emptying of the stomach, dietary sugar is more gradual absorbed.
Suggested uses:
– Individuals who have excess fat and that require assistance with weight loss
– Stabilizing blood sugar levels by delaying stomach emptying
– Can assist in cholesterol control due to the action of the fibres binding with bile acids that pass through the body and then stimulates more cholesterol to convert to bile acids so reducing LDL and, in some cases, even triglycerides.
